Sotunki Upper Secondary School has 430 students aged from 16 to 20, 250 adult students in its virtual learning centre and 20 full-time teachers. The school is situated in the eastern part of the city of Vantaa close to our capital Helsinki. Vantaa is the fourth largest city in Finland with a population of 185 000 inhabitants. The school is situated in a beautiful valley, in the middle of sport grounds. An athletics field, baseball and football fields, a swimming hall, skiing tracks and terrain suited for orienteering are all just a stone's throw away from our school.

Thanks to the excellent surroundings, our school is able to offer a wide variety of sporting activities. In our school the students have a possibility to include a training program as a part of their studies. If a student is otherwise interested in sports, our school offers opportunities that only a few other schools are able to, thanks to its advantageous location. We also work in co-operation with various sport clubs in Vantaa.

Most upper secondary schools in Finland emphasize one or two subjects in their curriculums. With Sotunki's surroundings being so ideal for many different sports, we emphasize physical education and sports. Our school offers specialized coaches for different sports. Especially ice hockey, football, floorball, judo and chess have been immensely popular in the past years.

We also have cultural studies courses available for our students. For example, last year a group of English students went to New York during the American studies course. We are also a part of a World school project, which offers our students a chance to meet fellow students from all over the world in the conferences and meetings organized through the World School project.

We also want to preserve the beauty of our surroundings and we emphasize the importance of environmental aspects and sustainable development in our curriculum.

Sotunki Upper Secondary School upholds traditions, but it is also a modern and active school. Our school motto is "Active learning in lively atmosphere". Our teachers and students co-operate well together. We aim to give our students multiple opportunities to study and develop themselves. Planning a highly individual study program is also possible. Our school organizes special courses for those students who are interested in international matters.

The use of information technology gives variety to ordinary classroom teaching. Our school building has just been renovated and every classroom is equipped with modern IT equipment. For example, we have data projectors and computers in every classroom, a special computer classroom with more than 30 computers with unlimited access for students and 20 laptops which the teachers and students can also use in lessons. Our school is specialized in virtual learning and it is the main developer of distance learning in southern Finland in co-operation with the Finnish National Board of Education. The Sotunki distance learning centre is situated in the facilities of the school, and while being an alternate route to finish an unfinished upper secondary school, it also offers courses for students from the ordinary upper secondary schools in Vantaa.

Nevertheless, the main purpose of Sotunki Upper Secondary School is to give our students a good grasp of the subjects for the future and entrance qualifications for their future studies.
